Indian Government has been carrying out a CSS ( Centrally Sponsored Scheme) for Improvement of infrastructure facilities in various Lower Courts by giving monetary help to State/UT Legislatures. Authorities has supported the continuation of this CSS for a future from 01-April-2021 to 31-March-2026, at a cost of Rs.9000 Crore, including Focal portion of Rs.5307 Crores
Starting around 2021-22 till date, Government has delivered Rs. 2986.80 crore under this Plan to States/UTs, of which, an amount of Rs. 267.64 crore has been delivered to Maharashtra.
Since beginning of the plan in 1993-94, 23,074 number of court corridors and 20,889 number of residential units have been built in Lower Courts, against the functioning strength of 20,371 Legal Officials as on date. In Maharashtra, 3,683 court corridors and 3,597 residential units have been built under the plan, till date.
The plan focuses on continuously working on the actual infrastructure of the Lower Courts as likewise meeting the lodging needs for officials of Lower Courts in India, with an objective to enhance judiciary in India. Till 2021, there were just two parts covered under CSS, development of Court Lobbies and Residential Units for Judiciary Officials.
In any case, while giving augmentation to the plan in 2021, following components were further added to the plan, which are
(I) development of legal counselors' halls
(ii) Court Toiltes
(iii) Computer Labs for the comfort of legal advisors and defendants.
